Day One - London to Milan
Good Morning Pippin, it is time to fly .......... it has been a while! Airports never cease to fascinate me. So many people, going where? And why are there so many children around too? Shouldn't they be at school. Can you believe I never used to like flying. It terrified me. Now I love it! I still have no idea whatsoever how that huge hunk of metal gets up there, let alone comes down again. I know my friend Lee (hello Lee in Stoke) has tried to explain it to me countless times, but I still don't get it. But I don't have to really do I? I have got to 29 years of age without understanding it, so why should I worry now. Those of you who have followed my other adventures will know that I feel the many people should not be allowed a passport to leave the country because they are stupid! Today, has been no exception. The only difference is I suspect these 'people' are the ones who actually voted for Brexit, who are off on a sunny break whilst they still can. Why do they think shouting in English is going to make someone understand? Why?
Hopefully, by the time I need to get back in the country, it will be closed and I will have to rock off somewhere else. If I was a few years young (say 25) I would be off by now.
I will leave the politics there. So it was the usual trip to the Duty Free, which let's face it is no cheaper than online these days, but it has to be done. I now get a monthly pension. Not bad for a 29 year old! The first instalment I received I splashed out on a new handbag and a bottle of gin (as every 29 year old should)! This time I have had a bottle of my new favourite perfume and a new lipstick for the occasion. If I can carry it, I will have a bottle of gin on the way home!
There are two airports in Milan. I am flying to Malpensa and I am flying with EasyJet who I will not hear a bad word said about after they reimbursed me in full for my non-trip to Budapest last year. From there I will catch the express train into Milano Centrale railway station and my hotel is about a ten minute walk.
Flight went quick but I had a terrible headache and fell asleep. I do that a lot when flying these days. Off the plane through the blue euro passport sign thinking to myself, well this won't be happening much longer, got my case and went to the train station. Ticket purchased and on the train to Milano Centrale. I will have to take some photos of the train station for you, it is amazing! However, it was rush hour and I know how many times I roll my eyes when I am trying to get somewhere in a rush and the world are taking selfies. Got lost as Google maps decided to go into melt down, he has not been the same since I changed him to an Australian voice, but I did that old fashioned thing: I asked someone.
My hotel is rather lovely. It is like a kind of hipster thing you would find in
Shoreditch. The blurb on the website says that the hotel was the brainchild of a group of Milanese architects and designers who wanted to respect nature, ecology and the environment. The hotel has been open since 2014 and the building dates back from the the 1950s. The hotel has used recycled items that are being reused in a different way, for example, and old piece of wood can be used as a headboard for a bed.
Not much time to enjoy it unfortunately as I needed to be showered and out for 8.00 to meet the group. However, managed to charged things back up and ready to roll. I had a lovely evening eating my entire body weight in Italian cheeses then pizza and met the other anglos who are on the course. We are a mixed bunch of mainly women and mainly from the UK with a few Americans thrown in. Well done Americans for finding Italy! The food and wine was really good and it was a great way to meet the people I will be spending the next few days with.
So made my way back to my lovely hotel and sorted out some bits for tomorrow. We are meeting at another hotel for 8.30 for breakfast then we are being transported to meet the Italians. There are 14 anglo speaking and 16 Italians and obviously if this was a Richard Curtis romcom I will fall madly in love with my tall, dark Italian. But this is me, remember, Bridget, so I will just probably full over!
I will leave you with a few photo of the hotel. Thank you to those who have messaged me to say you are following me (Sandra and someone else but you did not leave your name, so message me or Whats App me to let me know who you are). Until tomorrow.
